Dear Radio 1.
I am very disappointed in you. You really have butchered, what was before, a bloody good song. And do you know what adds insult to injury? For me especially? It’s by Rihanna.
For a start, you’ve renamed the song and you didn’t even tell her (I don’t know if you’ve been on her Twitter account recently but I think she may even be almost as angry as me.) To the untrained eye, S&M is a slightly risqué but in this case it stands for Scandals & Media. NOT what you think it does. And if you’re gonna take it upon yourselves to completely rename the song then you could a least be a little more imaginative. Taking the first lyrics from the song doesn’t always work. ‘Come On’ doesn’t really work as well you think it might.
I was warned against listening to the actual song by friends. I ignored them and went ahead and did it anyway. I really wish I’d listened to them. I mean really, why don’t you just go ahead and censor out the whole chorus?
I also hear news that the video for S&M has been banned in 11 countries and we are still working on an edit that can be shown on the TV before the watershed. What exactly are we seeing that’s so terrible? Rihanna provocatively eating a banana? I think if we all knew that Rihanna actually had to have a bucket present on the set because she kept vomiting at just the sight of said fruit, we wouldn’t have as attractive as we all think we do. And as for cutting out the scenes with Rihanna pictured walking Perez Hilton? Well good. I don’t like him much anyway.
So Radio 1, if you’re going to edit the shit out of S&M then why not start changing the name of Kings of Leon’s ‘Sex On Fire’? I mean COME ON! (No pun intended.)
