NYE
I’ve never enjoyed NYE. forced enjoyment has never been a strong point for me, i’m just too much of a free spirit. no but really, I can’t stand it. I don’t see the point in buying tickets for a club at the end october just so you know you can go to it at the end of december. you wouldn’t do it on a normal night, so why do it now? oh yes that’s right, so you can countdown 10 seconds til midnight with a bunch of strangers. I honestly believe if we all just calmed down a little bit and treated it like a normal night then we would all have a much better time.
I will admit that this year I was one of those who put their name on the guest list for a club far too early. I, of course, found on NYE morning that I was no longer on said guest list and thus, the whole night fell through. Knowing my luck, this sort of outcome was inevitable. Having spent the last new years at someones house that i didn’t really know and the one before that wandering the streets of Hackney, I hoped it couldn’t possibly get much worse. It then dawned on me that not only had my NYE been ruined, but my poor best friends had been too since I had made sure that she was also going to the same club as me. After breaking the news, we had to come up with some sort of back-up plan. After realising that all our friends had also made plans about 3 years before the actual night, it became apparent that we were the only 2 left with nothing to do. Money is also tight at this time of year, which meant we were pretty much stuck with Walthamstow as our only option. For those of you who don’t know what Walthamstow is like, it’s shit. A ‘low-key NYE’ was the decision which was reached and when the time came, we headed down to the Waltham Oak (our trusty local). I’m sure I carry some sort of bad luck curse, as when we reached Oak we found a note on the door saying ‘ENTRANCE BY TICKET ONLY.’ and a group of rather dumb girls sitting outside, who I continued to piss off only to hear them shout abuse at us as we walked away. We brainstormed together where else we could go. Claire revealed that her older sisters boyfriend was having a party at his house and we were welcome to go. Needing a little bit of liquid confidence before we arrived we decided to go to another local pub, where I was sent to the bar to buy the drinks as I was the only one with I.D. I knew that this would be a bad idea from the start when I had to carry back two pints of cider. A large quantity of one of the ciders was promptly spilt down another womans coat, she didn’t realise so I didn’t say anything. One cider later we set off to the party, stocked up with strongbow. The door was answered by a man dressed like a woman, who turned out to be claire’s sister’s boyfriend. I immediately warmed to him as he greeted me with a large glass of baileys mixed with banana (a brilliant concoction, you should all try it). By this time it was quarter to midnight and I was busting for the toilet, which was where I faced my next problem. I was wearing a playsuit. Any girl will understand that playsuits look nice, but are completely impractical. Whilst waiting for claire to use the toilet, I began to remove the playsuit as I knew that otherwise it would take too long. I did not want to be the girl who was taking off her playsuit from 2010 til 2011. I managed the feat and was back downstairs and ready to go with my playsuit still in tact within 5 minutes. We were then quickly ushered outside to the garden for fireworks as it was almost midnight. Claire and I treated the fireworks as bombs and cowered in the corner screaming as they went off, much to everyone elses amusement. After midnight, the night proceeded to go down hill. Too many drinks were consumed which resulted in Claire and I dominating the entire party. Their music was turned off, Rihanna was turned on. We also went about taking the mick out of anyone who came in to our paths and quickly pissing everyone off. Deciding that we had caused enough drama, we decided to call a cab. Although I began the night with a rather pessimistic outlook, it was actually one of the best NYEs I’ve ever had. And I also woke up with no hangover. Result.
